“Protect Your Playground” means different things to different people.
For some, it’s the local baseball field where they learned how to compete. For others, it’s the rec center gym where classmates became teammates, or the neighborhood soccer complex where an entire community showed up on Saturday evenings.
But at its core, Protect Your Playground is about something bigger than sports.
It’s about protecting the local youth sports experiences that bring communities together.
Over the years, youth sports has changed dramatically. More money, more travel, bigger tournaments, and larger private organizations have created opportunities for some families, but they have also changed the fabric of local community sports. In many places, families now spend weekends traveling out of town, paying higher fees, and chasing opportunities farther and farther away from home.
Meanwhile, local programs often struggle quietly in the background.
The programs built by volunteer coaches. The neighborhood leagues. The nonprofits serving kids who simply want a chance to play. The school-based teams trying to keep participation alive. The organizations creating meaningful experiences without giant marketing budgets or private investment behind them.
And when those programs lose visibility, communities lose more than sports.
They lose connection.
Friend groups get split apart. Classmates stop playing together. Parents spend less time invested in their own neighborhoods. Local pride slowly fades as the youth sports experience becomes more transactional and less community-driven.
That doesn’t mean travel sports or larger organizations are inherently bad. Many provide incredible experiences and opportunities for kids. But when the local community experience disappears completely, something important is lost along the way.
We believe youth sports should still have a heartbeat locally.
We believe communities should know what opportunities already exist in their own backyard before feeling like they have to look elsewhere.
We believe local organizations deserve visibility, support, and the chance to thrive without needing massive advertising budgets or outside funding just to stay relevant.
And we believe communities should have better ways to support the organizations shaping the youth sports experience close to home.
That’s what Protect Your Playground means to us.
It means supporting the coaches, organizations, parents, volunteers, and local leaders building positive experiences for kids every day.
It means keeping funding, pride, and engagement connected to the communities where those experiences actually happen.
It means helping families rediscover what already exists around them.
And it means building a future where youth sports is not just about chasing the next opportunity somewhere else, but also strengthening the communities we already call home.
