When we first started building PlaygroundStars, the idea of a “map” felt simple. Almost too simple. But the more time we’ve spent in this space, the more we’ve realized something:
The map isn’t just a feature. It’s the foundation.
You Can’t Choose What You Can’t See

Before a family signs up for a program. Before a kid steps on to the field. Before a community rallies around a team. There’s a much simpler step that has to happen first.
They have to find the right program. And right now, that process is harder than it should be.
Families bounce between Google searches, outdated websites, signs in the grass at intersections, and word-of-mouth recommendations. Some programs show up easily. Others—often just as impactful—are nearly invisible unless you already know they exist.
That’s not a supply problem. That’s a visibility problem.
The Map Creates Equity

One of the first things we realized is that visibility isn’t evenly distributed. Programs with larger budgets tend to show up everywhere—ads, search results, social media. Meanwhile, organizations doing incredible work in our communities often go unseen simply because they don’t have the same resources.
That creates an imbalance. Not in quality. Not in impact. But in exposure. We believe the map changes that.
By bringing every organization into one place, it ensures that everyone is represented—not just the ones who can afford to be seen.
It gives families a fuller picture of what actually exists in their community. And it gives organizations something they don’t always have:
A level playing field.
No Cost Means No Barriers
We made a very intentional decision early on:
The directory would be free.
Because the moment you introduce cost into visibility, you reintroduce the same problem we’re trying to solve. If being seen requires a budget, then visibility becomes selective. And once visibility is selective, access becomes limited. That’s not the system we want to build. So we removed that barrier completely.
- No cost to be listed
- No pay-to-play for exposure
- No advantage tied to marketing spend
Just a simple idea:
Every organization deserves the opportunity to be seen.
A Little Friendly Competition Never Hurts
And honestly… This is where it gets fun.
In the spirit of competition—which is what sports should be about—we invite every organization to put themselves on the map and let the community decide what stands out. Not based on who spends the most.
But based on the experience they create, the impact they have, and the value they bring to kids and families. Because at the end of the day, sports are about two things:
Fun and competition.
We think visibility should work the same way.
A Source You Can Trust

Another thing we kept coming back to:
There’s no single, trusted place for families to go.
Right now, finding youth sports often means piecing together information from multiple sources—some current, some outdated, some incomplete. It takes time It takes effort. And even then, it’s hard to know if you’re seeing the full picture. The map is designed to change that.
Not by replacing everything else—but by creating a central place where families can start.
A place where you can:
- See what’s around you
- Explore different options
- Discover programs you may not have found otherwise
Over time, our goal is simple:
To make PlaygroundStars a trusted starting point for youth sports in every community.
Why This Matters

This isn’t just about organizing information. It’s about unlocking access.
Because:
- Kids can’t join programs they don’t know exist
- Families can’t choose what they can’t see
- Organizations can’t grow if they aren’t being discovered
The map connects those dots. It brings everything into view. And in doing so, it creates something that hasn’t really existed before: A clearer, more complete picture of youth sports at the community level.
What We’re Building Toward
We’re still early in this. Each organization added makes the map stronger. Each community we build out becomes more connected.
And as that foundation grows, so does the opportunity to do more—supporting programs, strengthening communities, and continuing to improve the overall youth sports experience.
But it all starts here. With visibility.
Help Us Build the Map
If you’re part of a youth sports organization, we’d love to include you. And if you’re a parent or coach who knows of a program that should be on the map, send them our way.Because the more complete the map becomes, the more valuable it is for everyone. It’s about making youth sports opportunities in your community easier to find, more connected, and more accessible.
Help us make sure every organization in your backyard is seen—at no cost.
