Bio

Byron Leftwich is one of Washington, D.C.'s most accomplished football success stories, rising from local youth sports fields to the highest levels of professional football. A multi-sport athlete at Howard D. Woodson High School, Leftwich earned recognition in football, basketball, and baseball before continuing his football career at Marshall University. There, he became one of the most prolific quarterbacks in school history, throwing for nearly 12,000 yards and 89 touchdowns while helping bring national attention to Marshall and the Mid-American Conference. Leftwich's toughness became legendary during a 2002 game against Akron when, after breaking his shin, he famously continued playing and was carried down the field by his offensive linemen between plays in one of college football's most memorable displays of determination.nnSelected seventh overall in the 2003 NFL Draft, Leftwich played 10 seasons in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He earned a Super Bowl championship as a member of the Steelers and later transitioned into coaching, helping guide the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl LV victory as offensive coordinator. Throughout his career, Leftwich has been admired for his leadership, resilience, and ability to overcome adversity. From his roots in Washington, D.C. to becoming both a Super Bowl-winning player and coach, his story highlights the life-changing opportunities that youth sports can create and the impact that perseverance can have on achieving long-term success.
