Winky Wright is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive boxers of his generation and one of the most accomplished fighters ever born in Washington, D.C. Known for his trademark high guard, elite ring IQ, and relentless jab, Wright built a career on discipline, patience, and technical mastery rather than knockout power. Nicknamed "Winky" by his grandmother as an infant, he turned professional in 1990 and spent much of the early part of his career fighting internationally after struggling to attract attention from major American promoters.
